SNP MSP Christina McKelvie is encouraging constituents across Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse to take part in the Brew Monday 2023 campaign, taking place today (January 16th ).
Brew Monday, organised by Samaritans, is held on the third Monday of January and seeks to help those suffering from loneliness and isolation by encouraging individuals to connect with friends and family over a cuppa tea and a catch-up.
The Samaritans suggests that hosting a gathering with loved ones may be beneficial, as they highlight the importance and positive impact of a listening ear. The annual event is in response to ‘Blue Monday’, which is often regarded as the most difficult day of the year.
Commenting SNP MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, Christina McKelvie said:
“Isolation is an issue within our society that can impact anyone of us and the people we know. Encouraging people to reach out and provide space for them to speak up is essential, small actions like taking part in Brew Monday all play a part in helping to improve someone’s headspace for the better.
“The topic of loneliness has become a more prevalent problem as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we know that certain times of year can be harder for people, so it’s important to promote events which serve to alleviate these issues.
“The Brew Monday campaign is a brilliant initiative, providing a helpful tool to help out and connect friends and family who are currently struggling.”
“I encourage people in Hamilton, Larkhall, and Stonehouse to get involved in any way they can with this worthwhile cause.”
