I am absolutely disgusted to hear of hate speech at one of the schools within Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse Constituency. There is no place in our society for this kind of divisive hate and it is particularly disgusting for it to have taken place at a school.

I have written to the Police for a full report on the incident and to South Lanarkshire Council regarding what they are doing to prevent anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial across the Council area but particularly in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse. This is of particular concern given the distribution of hate filled leaflets in Larkhall during the summer.

The school has also been contacted to offer my support and inform them of the other organisations I have been in touch with regarding this incident. They have reassured me that they are taking all necessary steps moving forward. Holocaust Education Trust have also been contacted to ask if there is any support they can provide.

I pay tribute to the young people who questioned the flawed and hateful rhetoric from the man in question and also commend the school in their handling of this hateful incident.

Constituents should be assured that hate speech will not be tolerated in our communities and that I will continue to liaise with the Police, Council and other organisations moving forward to ensure action is taken.
