Commenting Christina McKelvie MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse and Màiri McAllan MSP for Clydesdale said:
“We are delighted to see the Scottish Government announcement that an independent chair will be appointed to oversee the review into incineration that was called for by ourselves earlier this year and announced by the Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport, Michael Matheson MSP, in May 2021.
“The review will look at a multitude of different areas including: national capacity requirements for incineration, how emissions from existing incinerators can be minimised and the impact of waste treatment on communities.
“It is welcome that the Government intends to begin taking evidence in November of this year, review the outcome of this between December 2021 - March 2022 and to publish the results of this review as soon as possible.
“This is welcome news, but especially with the spectre of an incinerator looming over Stonehouse that the community neither wants nor needs. We look forward to continuing to work with interested community groups, like the Dovesdale Action Group, across our constituencies to ensure they all have the time to contribute to the review.”
