I am writing to you as your Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) to highlight that the deadline for the UK Government’s EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) is Wednesday 30 June 2021.

I know this letter will not apply to some of you, and is only intended for foreign nationals from the European Union.

I am encouraging all EU citizens living and working in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse to start their application by the 30 June 2021 deadline to retain their rights, if you have not applied already.  Even if you do not have all the information asked for – please start the process before the deadline.

You are our friends, colleagues, neighbours and, in many cases, our family in Scotland and make valuable and valued contributions to life in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, and across Scotland.

I am very sorry that EU citizens have to apply to remain in the country you call home, but it is important that you do, and I will do all I can to support my EU citizen constituents.

I will continue to do all I can to convince the UK Government to reform the EUSS and extend the deadline, but for now I encourage all EU citizens in my constituency to apply for their Settled Status or Pre settled Status by 30th of June to protect your rights.

If you have children, you will also need to apply to the EUSS on their behalf. You can apply on behalf of your child as an individual, or you ‘link’ their application to yours. This means that if your own application is successful, your child will get the same status as you.

Support funded by the Scottish Government is available from Citizens Advice Scotland to any EU citizen living in Scotland yet to apply to the EUSS. Their team of specialist advisors can be contacted on their freephone EU Citizens Support Service helpline, 0800 916 9847.
