Christina McKelvie MSP hails scam awareness initiative
Larkhall Trinity Church played host to local MSP Christina McKelvie’s ‘Scam Awareness Surgery’ as the SNP MSP ensured her constituents are made aware of the latest scams and frauds.
Research from Citizens Advice Scotland had shown that over 61% of over 65s have been approached by a scammer. Other schemes include computer repair/ phishing scams and home and identity fraud
Hearing from Hamilton Citizens Advice Bureau, Trading Standards and Police Scotland, the agencies were on hand to offer localised, tailored support for the Larkhall residents.
Commenting on the surgery success, Christina McKelvie MSP said:
“I was delighted to host this Scam Awareness Surgery, informing all my constituents about the best ways to keep themselves protected.
“Scammers can target anyone, but especially the elderly and more vulnerable throughout our society.
“I thought it was important to give my constituents tailored, localised help to help them be protected against the most complex and convincing scams occurring throughout Scotland.
“My thanks to Hamilton Citizens Advice Bureau, Trading Standards and Police Scotland for coming along to my surgery, ensuring everyone throughout Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse is protected, secure and safe from the latest scams.
