SNP MSP Christina McKelvie ‘bitterly disappointed’ over refusal to reverse decision

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) are set to continue with their planned closures of 62 branches throughout Scotland, including the Larkhall and Hamilton branches, despite widespread condemnation from the Scottish National Party.

The closures, which are to result in over 165 job losses throughout Scotland and will cause several hundred staff redeployments, will be complete by June 2018.

In South Lanarkshire, the Hamilton Cadzow Street and Larkhall branches are set to be impacted. Local MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, Christina McKelvie, noted her ‘bitter disappointment’ following her meeting with RBS.

Commenting on the meeting, SNP MSP Christina McKelvie said:

“I still remain bitterly disappointed that RBS is set to close two branches within my constituency, despite my calls for banking services to remain local and loyal to their customers.

“Whilst it is reassuring to see that there will be no compulsory redundancies within these branches, I still remain vehemently opposed that RBS have taken this course of action.

“On behalf of my constituents, I have agreed a plan of action with RBS to protect existing local services. I will maintain a close dialogue with RBS and engage with them further to invest within my constituency as opposed to cutting services.
