NHS Modern Apprenticeships

Information Day at Larkhall’s National Distribution Centre on 7th March 2017

NHS Scotland are looking to recruit three Modern Apprentices as part of their national procurement strategy.

There are over 70 different Modern Apprenticeship Frameworks that have been developed in Scotland, offering the chance to be in paid employment and work towards a recognised vocational qualification at the same time.

The Modern Apprentices would be based at the NHS National Distribution Centre in Larkhall, with a one year fixed term contract on offer, with the opportunity for extension into permanent employment within the organisation.

There is a current vacancy for an apprentice Administration Assistant within the Business Support Team in Procurement, Commissioning and Facilities (PCF), with applications being accepted now.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on 17th March 2017.

All interested applicants are encouraged to attend the Information Day at Larkhall’s National Distribution Centre on 7th March 2017. This information Day will offer application advice and interview preparation techniques.

This vacancy is only open to applicants aged 16 – 24 years old, in line with NHS National Services Scotland Youth Employment Plan and workforce projections.

There are plans to recruit a further two Modern Apprentices later in 2017.

Commenting on the jobs boost, local MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, Christina McKelvie, said:

“I’ve had the pleasure of having a tour of the NHS National Distribution Centre in Larkhall and can vouch first hand of the exciting opportunities within the centre.

“This is a real opportunity for a young person to gain valuable experience in the workplace, whilst also gaining qualifications in Business Administration.

“Apprenticeships have changed – they are no longer just confined to the shipyards or for someone with a seeking a ‘traditional trade’.

“These opportunities give an exciting, dynamic chance for a young person to gain an insight into NHS Scotland and I would encourage all to apply and attend the information day on 7th March.
