It’s great news that three of our local Primary Schools are to get extra money from the Scottish Government.
Auchinraith, Robert Smillie Memorial and Hareleeshill will each get a share of the Inspiring Learning Spaces fund. The money will be used to encourage spaces for flexible learning and to better hook up the schools with further education and the Curriculum for Excellence.
The Scottish Government has either rebuilt or refurbished more than 520 schools since 2007. That’s a fifth of the entire school estate.
It’s great to see our Government so absolutely committed to giving all our kids the opportunities they can use to learn and develop themselves.
The Government is also extending the Attainment Fund to help 57 more schools in another 14 local authority areas, taking the number of schools benefiting from the fund to more than 300.
This fund concentrates on improving literacy, numeracy, health and wellbeing in primary schools, with the clear objective being to give all primary school age children the best possible start in life, regardless of background.
We in the SNP know we have done a lot – but we need to do more to ensure every child has an equal chance to succeed.
