Millar Park retirement housing for over-60s invited Christina McKelvie MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse along to switch on their brand new wi-fi system.
The team at Millar Park spent the past 4 weeks installing free wi-fi for the residents throughout the 38 flat complex in Hamilton before the big switch-on of the system by Christina on 6th December.
Christina McKelvie MSP commented:
“Having the privilege to switch on the free wi-fi service in Millar Park and getting the chance to speak to all the lovely residents was the perfect way to finish up 2019.
“After the wi-fi switch on the Millar Park team talked the residents through their new public computer and handed out ipads for those less used to technology to give a try.
“It was really heartening to hear how access to the internet had opened up the lives of some residents who were now able to watch old football games, listen to music and skype their family from across the world!”
Lorraine Masterton from Millar Park Homes said:
“We were delighted to welcome Christina to official launch our new wireless internet system and join us for lunch. The staff have been working tirelessly to get the system up and running to ensure our residents have first-class access to the internet.
“Just having that ability to access the internet really does help empower those living here in a way that some might struggle to otherwise. We are looking forward to building on this with ongoing opportunities for residents to improve their digital skills so they can take full advantage of the digital age.”
