In spite of an additional £17 million awarded to South Lanarkshire Council to pay for care packages, bed blocking by those in need of community support continues to blight the NHS.

Ms McKelvie said: "This funding from the Scottish Government's Change Fund during the last four years is allocated to health boards for distribution by particular partnerships so as to ease these problems. Since it clearly hasn't been spent on providing care packages, where has it gone?"

The information on bed blocking was provided through a FoI request to NHS Lanarkshire by Ms McKelvie's office (attached).

Figures from NHS Lanarkshire show that on average during the last year, more than 800 bed days are lost to others in need as a result of a failure to provide the appropriate community care package.
