SNP MSP partners with Inclusion Scotland to encourage inclusive employment
SNP MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, Christina McKelvie, has joined forces with Inclusion Scotland to seek a parliamentary intern.
Inclusion Scotland, the national network for disabled organisations and disabled people in Scotland, has partnered with the South Lanarkshire MSP to look for a candidate to work within the MSPs busy constituency and parliamentary office.
Christina, who convenes the Scottish Parliament’s Equalities and Human Rights Committee, was contacted by Inclusion Scotland with the goal to increasing employment opportunities for those who are disabled.
The internship will last a period of 12-weeks full time (or longer on a part-time basis) and will be paid at the Scottish National Living Wage of £8.45 an hour.
Commenting on the internship, Christina said:
“Through my work with the Scottish Parliament’s Equalities and Human Rights Committee, I have seen first-hand the barriers that have been put in place for disabled people seeking work, employment or experience.
“It’s incumbent upon us all to break down these barriers – which is exactly what this internship will help to achieve.
“Inclusion Scotland do tremendous work in acting on behalf of disabled people throughout Scotland. I am delighted to have joined forces with Inclusion Scotland to welcome the new intern to my team.”
Commenting on the internship programme, Inclusion Scotland CEO, Dr Sally Witcher added:
“We are pleased to have secured the support of the Scottish Government to resume our highly successful programme of cross-party Parliamentary internships for disabled people.
“This program is one of our strands of work aiming to bring about more inclusive politics and employment. We are delighted that Christina McKelvie MSP has agreed to be one of our placement hosts.”
