Singing Children of Africa

The ‘Singing Children of Africa’, from the charity ‘Educate the kids’, visited the Scottish Parliament on their 2016 Smile tour.

The children, based from the Jolaurabi School in Kenya, have toured throughout the UK, raising funds and awareness for their school through their concert performances.

The money raised from this tour will be used to further expand their school, adding in an ICT suite and an assembly room.

MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, Christina McKelvie, was there to welcome the children to The Scottish Parliament.

Commenting on the visit, Christina said:

“I think it was highly appropriate that this tour was called the ‘Smile’ tour, given that I couldn’t help but smile for the rest of the day after seeing the performance.

“The Singing Children of Africa bring some much joy and energy wherever they go. I was proud that, yet again, The Scottish Parliament played host to their wonderful performance.

“It was a privilege for me, not only to see the performance but to hear their stories – how much the children have pride in their singing and in their school.

“I would encourage everyone throughout my constituency to reach out and educate themselves about ‘Educate our kids’.
